You're Doing What?!?

Flats and Handwashing Challege: Day 1

Little man last year!

So what is the Flats and Handwashing Challenge some of you may ask and what is the point?

Well let me answer that for you. :) The Flats and Handwashing Challenge is a week long Challenge that means using flat cloth diapers and handwashing them for a week, no washer and dryer allowed. The rules and more information is available here @DirtyDiaperLaundry

A flat diaper is the old-school diaper that you think of when you think of your granny cloth diapering with pins and all. But the amazing thing about flats is how easily they wash and dry. They are my all-time favorite! Actually that's all we use anymore so the challenge for me this week is really the handwashing.

The reason for the challenge is simple, to show others who don't have access to a washer and dryer that cloth diapers are still a money saving and do-able option for them. Another reason for the challenge is to have the knowledge of how to handwash and use flats in case of emergency, loss of electricity, camping, etc.

There is something so simple and sweet seeing a baby in flat diaper.

P.S. Oh and to those of you scared of pins, there are a couple new inventions that are awesome, the Snappi and Boingos. If this piques your interest then head over to Dirty Diaper Laundry and join the fun! There is also an awesome Facebook Group (Flats and Handwashing Challenge).

Getting Excited

I am getting excited about the upcoming 4th Annual Flats and Handwashing Challenge! This will be my third time participating in it, although I didn't complete the second year. I had just found out I was pregnant with Bub two days before and really didn't want to be dealing with Sis's dirty diapers on such a hands on level. Last year I washed all of Bub's diapers by hand and the one Sis was using at nighttime. I was lucky though he only had 1 poopy diaper all week haha. This year I know I will not be so lucky. And Sis is wearing pullups so I won't be including her this year. So since we use flats all the time I am already on the hunt for a good nighttime flat solution-- I am looking into a few bamboo/hemp/jersey type of flats to use for nighttime. So when the challenge starts hopefully I will be able to show you what I have found. Talk to you guys soon!
